Lilacs in the Spring

I step out onto the back patio and take a deep breath. The scent of lilacs perfumes the air.  The smell wafts across my yard, dancing on the evening breeze. The blooming of the lilacs to me are the true advents of spring.  No other spring flower gives me so much pleasure, not the crocus, the daffodils, hyacinths or the tulips.  This year, my lilac bushes are loaded. I’m fortunate, the old couple who owned my house before planted a line of lilacs along the east side of the property. French lilacs grow in profusion along the back end and towards the house are white lilacs and traditional.  I love the smell of lilacs. They remind me of my Grandma Edith.  She also loved lilacs and when they were blooming, there was always a vase loaded with blooms in her house.  I remember she always wore what was then called “Lilac Water,” and it smelled so good, clean and wonderful. When my lilacs bloom in the spring like no other time, my grandmother comes to mind. They are great memories. She was a special person and I will always miss her.  I wonder if she is up there smiling as the scent of lilacs drifts heavenward.  Lilacs in the spring.

Sent back 40,000 years to be the mate of a man she had never before met, Riley struggles to understand and adjust. Her journey will take her into a world fraught with dangers - a world made more treacherous by savage beasts, primitive Neanderthals, and the incursion of the aggressive Cro-Magnon man. Surviving alone for five years in this vast wilderness, Nathan, along with his enormous dog, Demon, carve out a life in the perilous environment. Though thrown together by forces beyond their control, love grows between Riley and Nathan - but will they survive?
