Favorite Costume Ever?

Ahhh – Halloween!  Or All Hallow’s Eve!  The night when the dead walk the earth. When the veils between two dimensions thin and the night walkers spew forth.

Okay, so we’ve got the scary part behind us.  When I was young, plotting the perfect costume for Halloween was a month long job.  Even after I became an adult, I was either plotting my own costume or those for my children.

I was Pumpkin Head, Polly Darton, a witch…but my favorite of all time was the year I found a T-shirt at the Senior Citizen’s fair that simply said “I’ve used up all my sick leave so I’m calling in dead.”  The old creative juices flowed.  I found weeping sores and fake rotting flesh. I found green and white skin paint, black for my teeth and around my eyes and lips.  I was ready.

Halloween morning:  I donned the T-shirt, glued the sores/rotting flesh to my skin and then painted over everything with green paint mixed with white.  I shadowed my eyes with black paint and outlined my lips with the same.  To top it off, I ratted out my shoulder length hair, sprayed graying paint in it and I was ready.

My efforts were met with success.  My boss wouldn’t look at me all day.  People on the street commented on how good I looked, and when I got home that evening, my four year old son ran screaming and wouldn’t come near me until I looked myself again.  I know because I chased him around the house trying to convince him it was me.

Sadly, time has passed and other than wearing spider earrings to work, that will be the limit of my dressing up.  My granddaughter on the other hand is going out dressed as Clawdean Wolf from the Monster High crowed.  I have to admit, she looks really cool!

Here is her first costume:

And this year she's going dressed as Clawdean Wolf from Monster High!  Pretty Cool, hey?

From our house to yours – Happy Halloween.  And in the spirit of Halloween - leave a comment to be entered to win an e-copy of my vampire novel - Absolution! Contest ends midnight of October 31!  BWAAAHAAAHAAAA!

Mine was as a grownup and for work. I rented a clown suit. Not one person figured out who was under the white makeup even though I'm almost a head taller than most. It was great fun!

Aw, how sweet!

We're expecting Trick or Treaters tonight. My favourite light-up witch with the red eyes, glowing skull in hand and manic cackle has gone missing - did she fly over your way by any chance?

I'm wearing a long purple cloak and a lovely gold Cleopatra masquerade mask which my dear friend Sharon gave me for my birthday last year.

Happy Halloween Patsy

Love your post and the darling grandbabies and your book! A win, win, win. We live too far out in the country to get any trick or treaters except relatives. And our dogs scare off folk too.

Sounds like you take Halloween seriously and have a good time. I can't remember the last time I dressed up for the occasion so have fun for me this year.

Your granddaughter is a cute! Love the costume.

Thanks Ladies for stopping by. I don't go as crazy as I used too. We will probably get about 20 trick or treaters, about normal for us. Lyn, the costume sounds wonderful. Nope, haven't seen the witch. Probably ran away with my ceramic pumpkin that seems to have disappeared as well.

Lovely pics, Patsy!

Can't remember the last time I dressed up. Must have been a witch.

We're too far out, along an unlit path, for any kids to venture our way. Their parents would have hissy fits! ;-)

I was never much into the costume thing. One year my friends dressed me as an Ent (talking tree from Lord of the Rings) for an impromptu party. The Fall leaves came in handy thay year.

When I was young, those long unlit paths were the best, course we didn't have to worry about all the crap going on now.

Love the Ents idea. Great one!

OMG How cute is she? I love Halloween. Maybe because I met my husband at a Halloween party. And I still dress up. I have my devil head band on as I type... and jump up to treat the trick or treaters. Happy Halloween.

We had more than normal for the trick or treaters, but still not nearly as many as go through Harrison Boulevard in Boise. I hear they get thousands of kids down their street.
