Vacation from H#!l - As Vacations Go

Okey, so my son and I decided to pack up the trailer, gather the three dogs and drive off into the wild blue yonder, or the Oregon Coast as it were.  Wildfires are rampant in Oregon, so much devastation. Because of the problems with most routes, we took Highway 26 because at the time it was supposed to be open all the way to Sisters.  We were doing great and then... Just beyond Mitchell, we were routed to some town called Fossil on a horrible stretch of road, barely room for one car, big drop off on passenger side with no guard rails, had to ride the brakes all the way and no gas stations.  It was a harrowing ride and three hours later, we made it into Madras with barely two gallons left in the gas tank. Four hours later we made it into Sisters. Everything was closed for the night so we bought chips and dips and drinks at a gas station and called it a night. Morning comes. We pack up to head into Corvallis to see my sister.  The ABS light comes on.  ARRGGGGGHHHH. But we made it. Having a nice visit with sister, started to step down into the garage and fell down the steps.  Really hurt but fortunately, no broken bones. Left my sister's and headed towards Newport.  ABS light went off.  Whew!  Got to our campsite just as the place was closing down for the night.  Another Whew.  Next day, decided to go sightseeing. Bought a wagon for the dogs.  They chewed it up and then Poppy slipped out of her harness and escaped the wagon on that busy coast highway.  Fortunately, son caught her before she got too far.  Back to the trailer for the night. Next day sister and her daughter drove in from Corvallis to spend the day.  Had a really nice time. Ate at Moe's.  They headed home. Son got really sick for about 3 hours.  He was the only one who had lettuce on his sandwich.  We did see some whales and had a fantastic dinner at a place called Crabby Daddy's near Depoe Bay.  Time to head home.  ABS light came on again but shut off.  Made it to Sisters for the night.  Got to eat this time and then headed home the next morning.  Highway 20 was open finally so the trip home was a lot shorter than the trip to the Coast. Gas prices were very costly during the trip and the campsite wasn't cheap either but we expected that.

Got home - our big honey locust in backyard had split during a windstorm, neighbors said Friday night.  Also, they saw rats in the neighborhood.  *Sigh*  Bought traps.  Next day watching out the window and saw some strollers pointing and waving at our house.  I went outside.  The neighbor's tree had fell down, crashed through the fence and landed between neighbor's house and mine.  *Sigh again*

Anyway, next year we might have to come up with some alternate plans...or not go.
