The Bruce Willis Encounter

We all have those moments when we encounter a celebrity. My moment came in the form of Bruce Willis.  I was directed by my boss to pick up Bruce Willis and Demi Moore at the airport and drive them to their destination. At the time, I thought - what a hoot! But that evening, after some deep reflection, my anxiety factor settled in. OMG! Why had I agreed to this? And even more important - what was I going to wear?  I had nothing and it was 10:00 at night so my chances of finding anything were nil. I searched my closet for hours, finally deciding on a dressy pantsuit with long flowing lines. I hardly slept all night and when the alarm went off at 5:00 a.m., I jumped from my bed and made ready.  I drove to the car rental place where I was given a van to drive. I'd never driven a van before!  I wasn't a secure driver! I'm a nervous driver, especially when driving a vehicle that I had no idea where even the windshield wipers were.

Okay, so I'm waiting at the airport and I have the heat on high (my boss had told me to have the van warmed up).  They were late but finally the private jet came in.  My knees were shaking. My teeth were chattering. THE BIG MOMENT! Several people besides Bruce and Demi got off the plane and climbed into the van. Then came Bruce! OMG, my heart turned over. I can still remember the suit he was wearing and his composure. I don't know that I actually paid any attention to Demi, so enthralled with Bruce was I. He was even more handsome in real life than in movies and dressed to kill!

They all were in the van and I got in, ready to drive.  Of course something bad had to happen!  I couldn't get the parking brake off, but the man sitting in the passenger seat obligingly reached over and fixed it.  We were on our way.  Slowly and carefully I drove to our destination. Somewhere along the way, Demi asked me to shut off the heater as she was baking back there!  I wasn't doing so well.

Okay, we made it to the point of debarkation. They all climbed out, Bruce in the rear, but at the last moment he stopped right by my seat, leaned over so he was about 5 inches from my face and said (as my heart was hammering in my chest): "Can you go to the nearest 7 Eleven and get me some Aleve?"

"Uh, yeah," I mumbled. I drove that van like a speedster and found a convenience store, bought a huge box of Aleve and drove like crazy back. Handed off the Aleve and walked back to work (they wanted to keep the van).

It was several hours after that before my heart returned to its normal rate, but I have that encounter to remember. Bruce Willis! I drove Bruce Willis...and Demi too!

I didn't feel so amazing when it was happening. I was terrified.
