Tacoma Little Theater - A Momma's Pride - The Fortune Teller

Those creative genes we possess are hopefully passed to our children in one way or another.  My youngest son Zachary Buker sings opera and right now he and his troupe, Opera Elect, are performing at the Tacoma Little Theater in Tacoma, Washington, through August 7. The operetta was written by one of the performers, Madelein Bowman, and the music written by her sister, another of the performers, Jordan Bowman. I had the distinct pleasure of seeing this operetta at its grand opening in Meridian, Idaho, and I have to tell you, it is funny, wistful, sad, the music amazing, and totally entertaining.

And Now for a Little Opera

My youngest son Zach is budding opera star, where that

comes from I'll never know.  Currently, he is working on his master's at the University of Washington and had a major part in the opera Calisto this January.  He also is heavily involved in his and his partner's company, Opera Elect.  Anyway, proud momma has to shout it out at times.  The link is to one of my favorites that he has recorded - Widmung. The Young and Operatic

I have three sons.  

Jared, my eldest, is steady, down-to-earth, shy, hard worker. He's worked in the restaurant business for most of his life. Proud of this guy, always holds a job and puts his soul into his work.

Middle son is Travis.  Sweet guy, hard worker, great father to his little girl and just passed his exam to become a journeyman plumber.  If he decides he is going to do something, he goes for it and he "gets 'er dun!" Had some trying times over his life but has prevailed and, again, I'm so proud. 

Then there is the baby, Zach, who is now 22 years old.  Just graduated from college summa cum laude.  In the top 9 of his class.  From the time he was a little kid, he's loved music.  He plays the violin, the guitar, but his instrument of choice if the piano. Along with all that he is an opera singer and with his friend Jordan, they've become "Opera Elect."  

I wish I'd had these two young people's focus at that age. They're performing all over the northwest - in coffee shops, lounges, theaters and just about anyplace they can get in.  Recently, they had a musical written especially for them called "Tomorrow, Tomorrow."  I have to tell you, this is such a cute show - funny, sad, uplifting and ultimately a happy ending.  As Zach's mommy, I often wonder where all this talent and determination comes from.  Heck, I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, but he knew from the time he was young.  Music and anything to do with it.  His girlfriend, Edie, also performs with Jordan and Zach from time to time, and is the director for "Tomorrow, Tomorrow."

When Your Son Grows Up to be an Opera Singer???

Who would've have thought that my busy busy little boy (one in middle) who liked sports - tennis especially - would grow up to be an opera performer! I certainly wouldn't have imagined it 22 years ago, but this young man and his friend Jordan Bowman have put together a company, Opera Elect, which is truly amazing.  They are performing this summer in Nevada, Washington, Oregon and, of course, Idaho.  I just have to gave a few kudos to my son.  I never had his focus or his determination when I was that age.  He just graduated from a very exclusive college, summa cum laude, one of only 9 kids in the graduating class who did.  I know we aren't supposed to brag about our children, but this isn't bragging, it's giving praise where praise is deserved.  Stop by their website and read about all the things they are doing and have done.  His girlfriend, Edie, is helping produce the show "Tomorrow Tomorrow" which will be performed all over the Northwest!  Good job, my baby son!
