She was the last of her kind - and the most feared assassin was on her trail! Will o' the Wisp - Scifi Romance #scifi #scifiromance #mustread

Excerpt:
Night surrounded her. She drifted, a mere wisp on the wind, tumultuous thoughts causing the mist to darken to a cloudy grey. He was after her and if she didn’t find a host body soon, her destruction was imminent. Only in corporeal form would she have the ability to elude him, to mask her presence. Weakened as she was, she was vulnerable, easily overcome. She stifled a sob, struggling to maintain her veil of silence.
What did she know of him? Rumors abounded with his legendary skills and determination.  He was relentless, too experienced. Too determined to end my existence! Weary and distraught, she settled to the ground seeking a place to hide—to build up her flagging energy reserves for the next leg of flight. It would’ve been better to find an energy source but if he was as gifted as she’d been led to believe, he’d detect the transference and strike.
Why is he after me? I’m not a destroyer. I don’t harm anyone? Why me? No rational explanations existed for the unanswered questions.
Leaves rustled overhead causing her to cringe in fear, the tendrils of mist darkening to black. Mentally damning his formidable strength, she sent out miniscule feelers seeking his aura, careful not to delve too deeply lest he perceive her intrusion. What was he after?
I’m so afraid! There were so few of her kind left, so few to carry on. Devastated by failing energy resources and the lack of healthy breeders, the clan was on the verge of extinction. But I don’t deserve to die! I’m nothing, too insignificant to warrant the attention of such a fearsome and ancient being.
Kadin was far too powerful to covet her meager essence, but if legend could be believed, he was one who slaughtered his own.

Love Romance Reads - Win E-copy of Abaddon Rising

June 12 - I'm one of the authors in the giveaway at Love Romance Reads.  I'll be giving away an e-copy of Abaddon Rising, but that might not be all.  Enter to win my giveaway, but also check out all the other wonderful giveaways currently being
offered.

Excerpt for Abaddon Rising:

Kanaan perched on a high ledge watching the drama below. The female crouched against the slave gate glaring at the horde of leering male slaves as they crept forward. She wouldn’t last the night. None of the females did in here. She’d be torn limb from limb but not before she was forced to endure the bestial attentions of the dominant members of the pens. Too bad really! He admired the female. She was feisty, skilled, a born killer, but a female all the same.
He found it odd that her handler put her in here. She’d proven herself with every match, winning each round and advancing up the ladder. Usually an asset was treated with a little more respect, especially a female no less who’d won every bout. The crowds seemed to side with her during combat and he knew for a fact she’d made Master Luidoc’s pockets a little heavier. Didn’t make any sense that she’d be thrown in here!
He scrubbed a hand across his jaw considering. The female interested him for more than just her fighting skills. She was different, her species unknown to him. In many ways she reminded him of the Arkogian females. The body type was similar and they were known for jutting mammary glands but her delicate build and graceful movements decried that lineage. Arkogians were block-shaped and coarse, even more so than Deg’Nara females. Perhaps she’s a hybrid! Lot of us around these days, he admitted ruefully.
She’d drawn his attention from the first time he’d seen her fight in the pits. Slender and elegant, she looked more dancer than warrior. She was controlled, seeming bored even but that façade swiftly melted away when her opponent entered the ring. The only time he witnessed her control slip was when the female, Anashe he remembered, fell.
A few more paces and the mob would be on her and then it would be over. He drew a deep breath and exhaled. He stood up, gauging the distance to the ground and then dropped landing in front of the female.
He was within inches of the frontrunners of the mob, so close he could taste their reek. He spat, clearing his mouth of the vile aroma.
“Back off,” he growled, snapping his teeth. “Or it’ll be the last step you’ll ever take!”

Alien Abduction and the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) Series (The Chalice, Breeder Slave and Abaddon Rising)

Alien abduction is a concept that stimulates the imagination. Like being abducted by highland warriors, the idea of being abducted by a handsome alien has its romantic merit.  (We are, of course, talking about the handsome alien, not the lizard-skinned, gargoyle looking specimen.)

For example, in the 1967 movie, Mars Needs
Women, starring Tommy Kirk (one of my youthful heart throbs), aliens search human females fertile enough to repopulate their dying world.  A campy and fun movie at the time.

I've long been a science fiction fan.  If a new sci-fi movie comes out, you can almost be assured I'd be there!  Not too surprising that I'd delve into science fiction romance at some time.  My first stories were time travel, then some paranormal and now I seem to be caught in the sci-fi mode, ergo, The Chalice, Breeder Slave, Abaddon Rising and Will o' the Wisp.

I've taken the concept of alien abduction as my the basis for my Star Brides (Deg'Nara) series, The Chalice is the beginning of the abduction of 1,000 human females as brides for a dying race, Breeder Slave is the story of Leah and Moira who are captured by the bad guys and left to die on a barren planet and, my latest, Abaddon Rising. Joss is captured, enslaved and forced to fight in the alien gladiator games.

If you enjoy science fiction romance as much as I do, I hope you will enjoy these.

Life Evolves - Whether We Want It To Or Not!

Life certainly has changed for me the past few months.  My husband had retired on disability 3 years ago and a year and a half ago, I retired so we could spend more time, enjoy our planned-for adventures and start a new chapter in our lives. Then the unthinkable happened. In February, my sweet Jack had a stroke. Thank God he's come through it and doing really well.  He talks clearly, swallows well enough he can eat whatever he wants and can walk with a cane. His recovery has been amazing according to his therapists and I am so thankful.  We are truly blessed.

On the other hand...I have now become chief cook, bottle washer, and yard boy or should I say yard old lady.  I have learned how to start the mower, mow, fix the automatic sprinkler system, etc., replace part for the broken heads. I have learned how to put up grab bars for his security. (I do admit to a few unnecessary drill holes but that is what putty is for), and basically anything else I used to consider his job.  My hands hurt, my arms ache, my back is killing me and I'm tired all the time, but, you know what, I don't care.  What matters most is he is here with me!

All in all, I am changing, growing - whether I want to or not! I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!

I'll keep writing on those off times which happen so seldom these days.  Current WIP is another sequel in the Star Brides Series (The Chalice, Breeder Slave and Abaddon Rising).

Here's a little snippet from Abaddon Rising:

A Gersnovoid, pendulous ears flapping against his tattooed neck, failed to heed the warning. He was the first to go down. The lesson needs enforcing! He pummeled the would-be assaulter, beating the animal to a pulp while the wary crowd watched. When he was finished, there was little left of the brutal fool’s nose.
He turned his attention to the next in line. Ongus, a hulking brute of a male who spent his free time terrorizing the smaller slaves, faced him. The heavy features of the male were skewed in a worried frown. Muscles rippled across the massive slave’s shoulders as he flexed his hands again and again.
Kanaan arched his brow. “You next?”
Ongus’s throat worked as he gulped. “I…I…” His red-rimmed black eyes slid sideways as if seeking help from the others.
Kanaan’s lip curved. It was one thing to threaten a lone female but to bring down his wrath was quite another. “I. Asked. You. If. You’re. Next?”
A spark flashed in the brute’s beady eyes. His vast ego spurred his imprudence. He wasn’t ready to back down in front of the others and face being labeled a weakling or even worse.
“Master said any female tossed in here belongs to us all.” He pointed a stubby finger at the female. “She’s our reward for fighting well.”
“That might be, but then I’ve never seen you fight well. In fact, I’ve never seen you fight much at all. You’re usually thrown in when the Masters want a mock war, never one-on-one.” He laughed derisively. “You stay to the outside biding your time and when the moment is right, you strike. A coward’s ploy!”
“Why you…” The brute threw caution to the wind and sprang forward intending to throttle Kanaan who easily sidestepped the reckless maneuver. He stomped down on the back of Ongus’s knee. A loud popping noise followed.
The slave’s high-pitched scream echoed in the chamber as he stumbled and fell. Kanaan followed up with a hard kick to the tyrant’s face, spewing blood from the wide-nostrils of the bastard’s nose. One more solid kick and slivers of bone pierced Ongus’s feeble brain. The brute wouldn’t rise again. The Deg’Nara would have killed him anyway! An injured slave was worthless in the ring!
“He’s right,” a slave shouted. “She belongs to all of us.”
“We all get some of her,” another yelled.
Heads bobbed as the slaves murmured amongst themselves. Denied even the basic needs, the mob demanded this one small boon.
Though they were cautious about meeting him head on, even he couldn’t stand against so many. Fear and dominance were his most worthy tools.
Kanaan filled his lungs and roared, head thrown back as he issued the challenge. “She belongs to me! I claim her!”

From behind him, he caught the female’s startled gasp.

Paranormal, Science Fiction, Time Travel - I've delved into all!

I just can't seem to decide which genre I'm devoted to. I started out writing time travel (Fiona, Riley's Journey, Into the Savage Dawn, Beyond Tomorrow, Aimee's Locket).

I branched off into paranormal (Heart of the Sorcerer, Absolution, Prophecy's Bride (short)).

Now I'm into writing science fiction romance (The Chalice, Breeder Slave, Abaddon Rising, Will o' the Wisp).

From what I've heard from other writers, I'm supposed to pick a genre and stay there, but I feel comfortable writing anything that grabs my fancy.  I know writing what's popular would be a bigger paycheck, but I write as a hobby more so than an actual job.  I enjoy what I write, and I write what I feel passionate about.  My short short story Songbird is just a western about a young woman who runs from a marriage she doesn't want.

I wrote one of my stories solely for the pleasure of my husband and I found it harder to write than any of the previous ones because it was outside my comfort zone.  My writing career began when I was 54. My husband was constantly telling me I should write down all these stories I made up and one day, he went out and bought me a computer and told me to have at it.  I've been writing since and enjoying every moment.  Ending my stories leaves me feeling sad. The characters become my friends and I share their experiences with them.  Almost like I am there as well.

So time travel, paranormal or science fiction - whatever! I write what grabs my fancy.  Who knows?  One day I might try a contemporary romance!

Cover Revealed - Abaddon Rising

I find it terribly unnerving to wait for the publisher to send the cover art.  I've had some good ones and some bad ones, but I have to say, the cover art for Abaddon Rising is definitely high on the "I love it" side.

My hero, Khanaan, is a warrior slave fighting in the Deg'Nara gladiator games. When the human female becomes part of the games, he becomes her protector.

Will o' the Wisp - Available Now on Kindle Unlimited

Will o' the Wisp - available now on Kindle Unlimited.

Science Fiction Romance.

Stalked across the vast reaches of the universe, Tannis, the last fecund female of the clan Light Bringers, takes refuge on Earth, veiling herself within the dying form of a human female. Her energy forces are flagging and to rejuvenate, she must seek the healing properties of the sun’s rays, but by doing so, she risks discovery by the hunter. Time is short and Kadin—the most feared assassin of all—draws near!

Excerpt:

I am Tannis! A harbinger of light! Some say I’m the catalyst to lead my kind back from the brink of annihilation.
With Kadin in pursuit, such a fanciful hope dissolved into nothingness.
The wind moaned, whistling through the trees, growing in force as the darkness advanced. Eerie and unsettling. The temperature dropped. Frost formed on the strands of grass, transforming the landscape with glittery gems of ice. He is coming, she thought, shuddering. A tree limb wove wraithlike in front of her vision, the long silvery leaves snapping in the strong breeze. Other than the wind, silence stilled the forest. Even the wild creatures sensed his coming.
She wondered how the others at Sanctuary had fared. The clan families would have bonded together to face him, cleaving to each other in a show of strength. I had none to offer that protection! I suspect I’m lucky Shobath took the time to warn me before he escaped.
She sensed rather than heard the grinding of metal against solid rock. Pounding agony emanated from the source, fading as the entity’s essence drifted away. Drawn by the diminishing energy, curiosity overcame her fear. She floated along the ground, careful not to disturb her surroundings and draw the seeker’s attention.
There! Across the way! A vehicle used for transport was crushed against a rock wall. Floating above, the occupant’s soul hovered as if undecided whether to stay or go. She murmured an invocation easing the entity’s confusion. It drifted for a moment and then disappeared into space. She only had moments before the body would begin to decompose. Was the vessel too badly damaged?
Whatever the consequences, this was the one! She had no other choice. Focusing on the form, she entered the nervous system, spreading out as she took control. A moment of sorrow for its passing. If I’d gotten here sooner… Crushing agony overwhelmed her. The form had suffered terrible damage before its essence departed.
The unbearable pain ripped at her mind with a thousand shards of pulsating torture. I can’t endure this much longer! But what other choice do I have?
This body needed medical attention beyond the aid she could provide. But I have to try! Disconnecting the thrumming pain signals, she centered herself, emitting waves of healing energy, focusing on the worst of the injuries and attempting to forestall the form’s complete collapse of the major organs. The kidneys could wait but the liver and pancreas had been pierced in the accident. Blood clots formed in the venal system, working their way towards the heart and certain death. She had little time. Molecule by molecule she labored, repairing as she could, enough to stave off total meltdown while she prayed for help.

2018 - Time's Passing Faster Each Year

I remember when I was young thinking about how far in the future 2018 was and that I would be an old lady by that time, if I even made it to 2018.  But...here we are!  I don't make New Year's Resolutions. No reason to because I can't seem to follow them in any event. I guess my resolution is just not to make them.  I retired the end of 2016 and had my first full year of not working in over 35 years.

At times I miss the interaction of my buddies at work, but do not miss the stress of working in a law office.  I have my husband to
keep me company and I meet with friends for lunch from time to time. All in all, I am enjoying the freedom even though I realize I'm here because I've reached the age where I'm considered a senior citizen.  Funny! I don't feel any older than I did when I was in my early 30's but my body reminds me that I can't do what used to be simple for me.  I guess everything does change, but change can be good. I write more, try to exercise more, bake a lot - do things for myself!

I look forward to 2018 with an open mind, but always hoping that the new year will be better than the last, both for me and the members of my family.  I have things I want to accomplish this year. Becoming an award-winning author would be nice but I suspect I would have to enter a few contests to reach that level. Who knows? 2018 might be the year.

My blessings for a great 2018 to each and every one of you.  May joy and love fill your hearts!
