It's So Hooooottttttt! #plparker #scifi #scifiromance #alieninvasion

It's so hoooottttt! I've been trying to work outside some but it's frankly too hot for this old broad.  Guess I'll revert to housework...not!

I have been writing more and I'm pleased that I'm already over the 20,000 mark for my latest WIP, Ginger, Book 3 in The Chimeras series.  I'm enjoying writing this series and each book seems to evolve quite quickly, which is a good thing I've heard.

We are going through a long stretch of high heat in our area, but from the reports, happening all over the west and northwest.  Praying for rain.

But maybe we just need to crank up the heat! In reading that is, since reading seems to be a good way to beat the heat!

Add some "heat" to your day with THE STARBRIDES series, THE CHALICE, BREEDER SLAVE, ABADDON RISING and REQUIEM.  Available from Amazon now!

Cover for Book 4, Star Brides Series, REQUIEM - And I'm Loving It! #scifi #scifiromance #adventure #galacticempire #paranormal

My cover artist, Harris Channing, did it again!  I just received the cover art for my novel, REQUIEM, and I have to say I love it!  Harris just seems to know what I want and then puts it together. She created the covers for all four Star Brides Series books, Saffron and The Sanctuary. So pleased. Within the next few weeks, I'll have the last of the Star Brides novels uploaded on Amazon for purchase.

Sunday Snippet - Part 2! REQUIEM (Book 4, Star Brides (Deg'Nara)) Series! #timetravel #timetravelromance #plparker #romance

She was one of the Star Brides. 1,000 women kidnapped and transported across the universe as brides for a dying race. But life goes on - even in this perilous reality.

Excerpt:

She ripped open another package of oksara. Might as well be comfortable.

The panel door pinged and then slid open. Ashyr stood in the entryway with a plate of steaming food. His face darkened as he took note of the opened bins.

“I brought food, but it appears you’ve made yourself to home.”

She burped and then swiped a hand across her mouth. “Yeah! Pretty high-class eats in here and the wine is to die for!” Her lips pursed in a moue. “And Dicky-boy said this wasn’t a pleasure cruise!”

“Those eats as you call them are worth a lot of credits on the black market,” he growled. “The wine alone is worth more than you could afford in a lifetime.”

“I could argue that! You have no idea what I make as a lowly recruit. Wages have risen in the employment marketplace these days! I’m pretty sure I almost make minimum wage by now!”

With one hand, he reached for her arm and yanked her upright. “Come with me.”

“I’m fine right where I am,” she retorted as she struggled against the hard clasp of his grip. “I’m really beginning to like it in here. Sort of like a home away from home!”

“And this was a mistake,” he snapped as he dragged her behind, still balancing the plate of food. “Maybe I should rethink my opposition to trading in flesh.”

“Maybe you should,” she shouted as she attempted to rip her arm free. “Better than being stuck here!”

He stopped abruptly and turned to face her, giving her arm a rough shake. “Really? The only buyers on the flesh market right now are Deg’Nara slavers and the Mogishada flesh eaters, but if you prefer that route, I can certainly make it happen! You’ve already cost me more credits than you’re worth!”

Another frickin’ bad idea!

“Uh…no…no,” she stammered as she grew still. He looked mad enough to make good on his threat! “Happy to be here, wherever this is.”

His silvery eyes were now the color of a stormy sky. “Best you remember you’re here only because I allow you to be. If you persist in your…antics, I’ll hand you over to Falis and I can assure you, you won’t like his methods.”

He whirled and dragged her another few steps along the passageway, stopping in front of the quarters she knew to be his. Dropping her arm, he punched in a code on the control panel and stepped through the entryway. Somewhat hesitant, she followed him in.

He slammed the plate down on the desk. “You’ll stay in here until we reach the fleet.”

“Maybe it would be better…”

“And you’ll sleep there,” he pointed to the only bed in the room, “with me where I can keep an eye on you. I can’t trust you to behave yourself, but you’ll soon learn if you plan to survive in my world.”

“I’m fine sleeping on the floor,” she retorted too quickly. Share a bed with this guy! Was he insane? “No reason to give up your bed and I’m a terrible bed partner anyway. Ask anyone. I toss and turn all night. Snore. Kick too. Can’t help it!”

She was chattering. Blathering as she did when she was caught in situations that made her nervous—and the idea of sleeping with this guy certainly caused shivers of anxiety to race up her spine!

He shoved the plate in her direction and then sat down. Once again, his feet were plunked down on the desktop. For a guy whose posture bespoke one of ease, he certainly looked formidable.

“Shut up and eat!” His gaze dropped as he punched several codes into the control panel on the desk. “I’ve better things to do besides supervise you but it seems I have little choice in the matter.”

REQUIEM - He had her weapon but that wasn't going to last! #scifiromance #scifi #romancebooks #spaceopera

Wondering what REQUIEM is all about?  You came to the right place!

Blurb:

The rebels are losing the intergalactic war.

They need a prototype of the Deg’Nara’s latest weapon, a planet-killer, to survive. A covert operations team is tasked with finding and retrieving the weapon. Their mission is proceeding as planned when it goes horribly wrong.  Ashyr, a space pirate, swoops in and literally tears the weapon from the team’s hands.

Cam can’t let that happen. Impetuous, reckless, and determined to retrieve it at all costs, she throws herself onto Ashyr’s ship and the battle begins.

Excerpt (one of my favorites):

One eye popped open. With a low groan, Cam forced the other to follow. Her head ached as though a million drums were pounding an uneven rhythm through her brain. She cringed in pain. Even her teeth hurt! She started to raise her hands and rub her forehead but then realized she was lying on her side on a lumpy cot with her hands and feet bound behind. Not much chance of escape!

Water! What she wouldn’t do for a glass of water right now. Her mouth felt like cotton and tasted like shit!

“You’re awake,” a deep voice grumbled.

Cam’s lashes fluttered as she fought to focus. The bug-eyed, green-skinned alien of her nightmares stood before her. “Yeah, and lucky for me, the first thing I see is your butt-ugly face.”

With a growl, he fiddled with his wrist-com, releasing the shackles binding her feet and then dragged her upright. “Ashyr wants to see you. Now!”

“Sorry. No can do,” she flipped, shaking her head. “Got a bitch of a headache. Female thing you know.”

“You go,” he snarled as he shoved her through the entryway into a dimly lit corridor.

Sarcasm was always her favorite weapon when she was scared—and she was terrified right now and so stinking alone. “Help me out here! What do I call you besides creepy or ugly? Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with either one.”

She could almost feel the steam emanating from his scaly green skin, but after a few parsecs, he grudgingly answered.

            “I am called Falis.”

She managed a short laugh even though her heart was pounding. “Ah! Phallic? Good name. Fits.”

            “Falis! My name is Falis.”

“Phallic! Falis! Sounds the same. Most of the males on our planet go by the name of phallic or phallus in one way or another. Doesn’t matter, but we usually shorten it to Dick!” She gave him a sneering smile. “Dick! Perfect! That’s what I’ll call you. So much more intimate.”

Snippet Time! A Little Something to Tempt Your Reading Buds!

Time for a tempting snippet - a little something to get the old reading buds going.

Abbaddon Rising.

Summary:  Joss is one of a thousand women abducted by the Chiagan-Se as brides for a dying race. The males thought they'd come willingly, the women believed they'd been kidnapped and when the two sides meet, sparks fly.

Abaddon Rising is Book 3 in the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) Series. Joss is captured, enslaved and forced to fight in the alien gladiator ring...and then came Kanaan!

Snippet:

Yells and curses rent the air! Whips cracked overhead as the slave handlers rounded up their charges and herded them towards the conscripts’ quarters.
Joss ducked in time to avoid a direct hit from a serpentine strap before standing up. One of these days she silently vowed. I really hate those frickin’ whips! Physically drained and mentally brain-dead, she found a place in the straggling line and followed the exhausted slaves towards the dormitory. This rotation had been a singularly grueling one and she ached in every bone and muscle. Two more rotations and we’ll leave this shithole! And then what? If I win, I’m back here and if I lose…
The whole depressing scenario left her downhearted and hopeless. Only thing I can hope for is that Master Luidoc loses and I’m bought by a Master who’ll set me free! Fat chance that! The Destroyer will never be defeated in the ring and if I survive, I’m right back here! Big f’ing deal!
Without conscious thought, she kicked out, landing a solid blow on the lower leg of the slave ahead. The shaggy red head whipped around.
Watch ass, female,” the creature snarled from thin blue lips.
She stepped back, startled. The left portion of his face was a mass of burn scars, twisting the blue lips into a perpetual one-sided smile.
The yellow-green eyes snapped with anger. “Or I kills you next time!”
“Oh yeah,” she snapped back. “You and who else?”
Euo, she recalled. One of those conscripts slated for the mass battle. From her experience in the sparring bouts, his skills were modest at best and he’d be one of the first to fall. A brief surge of sympathy gave her a moment’s pause. Have I become so callous to the suffering of others? Edie would be so ashamed of me!
“I’m…I’m sorry,” she apologized. “Just tired!”
The shaggy red head dipped in an acknowledging nod. “Bad place here.” He spit into the dust. “Deg’Nara bad. All bad,” he hissed under his breath.

Alien Abduction and the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) Series (The Chalice, Breeder Slave and Abaddon Rising)

Alien abduction is a concept that stimulates the imagination. Like being abducted by highland warriors, the idea of being abducted by a handsome alien has its romantic merit.  (We are, of course, talking about the handsome alien, not the lizard-skinned, gargoyle looking specimen.)

For example, in the 1967 movie, Mars Needs
Women, starring Tommy Kirk (one of my youthful heart throbs), aliens search human females fertile enough to repopulate their dying world.  A campy and fun movie at the time.

I've long been a science fiction fan.  If a new sci-fi movie comes out, you can almost be assured I'd be there!  Not too surprising that I'd delve into science fiction romance at some time.  My first stories were time travel, then some paranormal and now I seem to be caught in the sci-fi mode, ergo, The Chalice, Breeder Slave, Abaddon Rising and Will o' the Wisp.

I've taken the concept of alien abduction as my the basis for my Star Brides (Deg'Nara) series, The Chalice is the beginning of the abduction of 1,000 human females as brides for a dying race, Breeder Slave is the story of Leah and Moira who are captured by the bad guys and left to die on a barren planet and, my latest, Abaddon Rising. Joss is captured, enslaved and forced to fight in the alien gladiator games.

If you enjoy science fiction romance as much as I do, I hope you will enjoy these.

Life Evolves - Whether We Want It To Or Not!

Life certainly has changed for me the past few months.  My husband had retired on disability 3 years ago and a year and a half ago, I retired so we could spend more time, enjoy our planned-for adventures and start a new chapter in our lives. Then the unthinkable happened. In February, my sweet Jack had a stroke. Thank God he's come through it and doing really well.  He talks clearly, swallows well enough he can eat whatever he wants and can walk with a cane. His recovery has been amazing according to his therapists and I am so thankful.  We are truly blessed.

On the other hand...I have now become chief cook, bottle washer, and yard boy or should I say yard old lady.  I have learned how to start the mower, mow, fix the automatic sprinkler system, etc., replace part for the broken heads. I have learned how to put up grab bars for his security. (I do admit to a few unnecessary drill holes but that is what putty is for), and basically anything else I used to consider his job.  My hands hurt, my arms ache, my back is killing me and I'm tired all the time, but, you know what, I don't care.  What matters most is he is here with me!

All in all, I am changing, growing - whether I want to or not! I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!

I'll keep writing on those off times which happen so seldom these days.  Current WIP is another sequel in the Star Brides Series (The Chalice, Breeder Slave and Abaddon Rising).

Here's a little snippet from Abaddon Rising:

Kanaan perched on a high ledge watching the drama below. The female crouched against the slave gate glaring at the horde of leering male slaves as they crept forward. She wouldn’t last the night. None of the females did in here. She’d be torn limb from limb but not before she was forced to endure the bestial attentions of the dominant members of the pens. Too bad really! He admired the female. She was feisty, skilled, a born killer, but a female all the same.
He found it odd that her handler put her in here. She’d proven herself with every match, winning each round and advancing up the ladder. Usually an asset was treated with a little more respect, especially a female no less who’d won every bout. The crowds seemed to side with her during combat and he knew for a fact she’d made Master Luidoc’s pockets a little heavier. Didn’t make any sense that she’d be thrown in here!
He scrubbed a hand across his jaw considering. The female interested him for more than just her fighting skills. She was different, her species unknown to him. In many ways she reminded him of the Arkogian females. The body type was similar and they were known for jutting mammary glands but her delicate build and graceful movements decried that lineage. Arkogians were block-shaped and coarse, even more so than Deg’Nara females. Perhaps she’s a hybrid! Lot of us around these days, he admitted ruefully.
She’d drawn his attention from the first time he’d seen her fight in the pits. Slender and elegant, she looked more dancer than warrior. She was controlled, seeming bored even but that façade swiftly melted away when her opponent entered the ring. The only time he witnessed her control slip was when the female, Anashe he remembered, fell.
A few more paces and the mob would be on her and then it would be over. He drew a deep breath and exhaled. He stood up, gauging the distance to the ground and then dropped landing in front of the female.
He was within inches of the frontrunners of the mob, so close he could taste their reek. He spat, clearing his mouth of the vile aroma.
“Back off,” he growled, snapping his teeth. “Or it’ll be the last step you’ll ever take!”
A Gersnovoid, pendulous ears flapping against his tattooed neck, failed to heed the warning. He was the first to go down. The lesson needs enforcing! He pummeled the would-be assaulter, beating the animal to a pulp while the wary crowd watched. When he was finished, there was little left of the brutal fool’s nose.
He turned his attention to the next in line. Ongus, a hulking brute of a male who spent his free time terrorizing the smaller slaves, faced him. The heavy features of the male were skewed in a worried frown. Muscles rippled across the massive slave’s shoulders as he flexed his hands again and again.
Kanaan arched his brow. “You next?”
Ongus’s throat worked as he gulped. “I…I…” His red-rimmed black eyes slid sideways as if seeking help from the others.
Kanaan’s lip curved. It was one thing to threaten a lone female but to bring down his wrath was quite another. “I. Asked. You. If. You’re. Next?”
A spark flashed in the brute’s beady eyes. His vast ego spurred his imprudence. He wasn’t ready to back down in front of the others and face being labeled a weakling or even worse.
“Master said any female tossed in here belongs to us all.” He pointed a stubby finger at the female. “She’s our reward for fighting well.”
“That might be, but then I’ve never seen you fight well. In fact, I’ve never seen you fight much at all. You’re usually thrown in when the Masters want a mock war, never one-on-one.” He laughed derisively. “You stay to the outside biding your time and when the moment is right, you strike. A coward’s ploy!”
“Why you…” The brute threw caution to the wind and sprang forward intending to throttle Kanaan who easily sidestepped the reckless maneuver. He stomped down on the back of Ongus’s knee. A loud popping noise followed.
The slave’s high-pitched scream echoed in the chamber as he stumbled and fell. Kanaan followed up with a hard kick to the tyrant’s face, spewing blood from the wide-nostrils of the bastard’s nose. One more solid kick and slivers of bone pierced Ongus’s feeble brain. The brute wouldn’t rise again. The Deg’Nara would have killed him anyway! An injured slave was worthless in the ring!
“He’s right,” a slave shouted. “She belongs to all of us.”
“We all get some of her,” another yelled.
Heads bobbed as the slaves murmured amongst themselves. Denied even the basic needs, the mob demanded this one small boon.
Though they were cautious about meeting him head on, even he couldn’t stand against so many. Fear and dominance were his most worthy tools.
Kanaan filled his lungs and roared, head thrown back as he issued the challenge. “She belongs to me! I claim her!”

From behind him, he caught the female’s startled gasp.
