When I first started The Chalice, I had no plans nor did I imagine that it would mutate into a series. I had so many requests to continue the story of the Star Brides, I had to try. I have to admit, the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) series is my favorite of the series I have written so far. I do love my Riley's Journey Trilogy and they have been my bestsellers so far, but the concept behind the Star Brides series is one I find compelling.
1,000 women are abducted by aliens as mates for their dying race. The males thought they'd come willingly but the females knew they'd been kidnapped. Once the two sides meet, the battle begins.

They need a prototype of the Deg’Nara’s latest weapon, a planet-killer, to survive. A covert operations team is tasked with finding and retrieving the weapon. Their mission is proceeding as planned but goes horribly wrong when Ashyr, a space pirate, swoops in and literally tears the weapon from the team’s hands.Cam can’t let that happen. Impetuous, reckless, and determined to retrieve it at all costs, she throws herself onto Ashyr’s ship and the battle begins.

Furious, Cam
crouched against the wall, glaring at the sleeping male. Thinks he can just jump me and then fall asleep! Guess again asswipe! Her
booted foot lifted preparing to kick when he shifted on the bed and mumbled in
his sleep. One well-shaped hand reached for the coverlet and pulled it over his
shoulders before he lapsed into a low, rasping snuffle. Her foot dropped.
Great!
Just great! Not only was she chained to the bed, but she’d have to listen
to him snore all night long. Her foot lifted again. Maybe just one small kick,
enough to kill the sound of the heavy breathing! After all, didn’t she owe him at
least some sort of pain for the almost rape?
Her teeth caught
her bottom lip, worrying the tender flesh. The opportunity for a little payback
lifted her dwindling spirits but maybe now was one of those times when erring on
the side of caution—as Nadic drilled into her at every turn—might be appropriate.
After all, it wasn’t like he’d actually raped her! More like physically threatened…or
something!
She sniffed, inexplicably vexed. No sexual interest whatsoever! Not that
she cared a whit about what he’d said, but the response from his well-developed
male part certainly disagreed with his statement to the contrary. She almost
laughed. Might be fun to explore the possibilities and just might be her meal
ticket on this ill-advised journey into nowhere. She studied the back of his
head, noting the thick hair that curled at the base of his neck. He wasn’t
unattractive. In fact, he was more than attractive, handsome even, and she
suspected he had his fair share of females vying for his attention. He
certainly had all the attributes to make him drool-worthy to the greater part
of the female population.
Wonder
if he’s bonded? And how old was he? Not a fledgling by any stretch of the
word. Mature and self-possessed but young for a captain although he seemed to
be well respected by his crew members. Even the green-skinned, smelly lizard
guy showed him a lot of respect.
Too
much time thinking about him! But then, what else did she have to do? Going
to sleep wasn’t an option. Who knew what would happen if she wasn’t on constant
guard! He might just decide he did have some sexual interest in her or forget
who she was in his sleep!
He snuffled and
rolled to his side facing her.
His face in repose caused her female
parts to flutter. Surprised, she shifted further away before settling down to
peruse his features. The full, mobile lips were slightly parted showing a thin
line of his perfect white teeth. Although his shoulder length hair was a light honey-brown,
his long curling lashes were a dark brown as were the arched brows. At the
moment, the brows were drawn together over the well-sculpted nose as though his
dreams were troubling. The firm chin with just a slight cleft only added to his
masculine beauty.
She caught herself
in a sigh. Just her luck the first guy she could honestly rate as a good old
piece of man-candy ended up being her enemy!
He huffed and then
drew a sharp inhale. Guy sure made a lot
of noise in his sleep! Funny, she found it almost comforting. Reminded her
of the barracks where she spent her nights. Never a real moment of quiet.
Always some trickling of noise going on.
Her eyelids drooped.
Gawd, I’m tired! She stifled a yawn. Seemed
like forever since she’d made the reckless dive onto Ashyr’s ship. But for
that, she’d probably be resting in her own bunk surrounded by her friends and
cohorts. Once again Nadic’s words swam through her weary brain. Err on the side of caution! Figure out a
plan and stick to it!
Plan be damned! At
the moment, all she needed was some sleep! Her weary brain fogged, blanking out
for a moment as she drifted off. Startled, she jerked awake, swiping at a line
of saliva dribbling down her chin. Mortified, her gaze flew to Ashyr, but he
appeared deep in slumber. Her gape-mouthed drooling was the subject of more
than one off-hand joke made at her expense. Embarrassed the heck out of her but
not much she could do about it other than tape her mouth shut while she slept.
She shifted,
easing the cramping in her legs. Damn cot wasn’t made for two people and the
big guy took up most of the available space! Wasn’t really his fault though. If
she was honest with herself, she deserved pretty much everything he was handing
out—and then some! Guy hadn’t asked
for her company and she’d been better treated than she would have expected.
Ashyr rolled to
his back, the broad chest raising and falling with each inhalation and
exhalation.
Good one of us can rest! Pinching him
seemed unfair!
The temperature in
the chamber seemed to drop several degrees, enough to cause a slight shiver to
race up her spine. She eased a blanket from beneath his feet and draped it over
her shoulders, using part of it to form a makeshift pillow. Might as well be comfortable! She
snuggled down, struggling against the overwhelming need to catch a few moments
of rest. Her eyelids grew heavy, but she had to stay awake! Had to be ready…
Nope! Wasn’t
working! Raising up on one elbow, she studied the sleeping male with some
interest. Gone was the scowl that marked so many of his waking moments. Beneath
the closed eyelids, his eyes moved with restless abandon, a sure sign he was
dreaming according to what she’d read in some long forgotten medical journal. It
would be interesting to know what prompted his current dream state. Sex.
Battle. The galaxy in general.

Move to Canada? #scifibooks #romancebooks #spaceopera #alienabduction
As a writer, I keep track of my sales all over the world. For some reason, my novels seem to do better in Canada than here. Why is that? I've often thought I should move to Canada because of my popularity there but with Murphy's Law, I'd move there and then my novels would do better here. Guess I'll just have to stick it out here and hope my sales start moving up! Now that I have more time to write and do the promo crap, I'm hopeful.
Even with the issues my life has been forced to endure these past years, I have managed to get out another book and my latest novel, REQUIEM, is due to be released on May 21. Print copies are available now.

Night surrounded her. She drifted,
a mere wisp on the wind, tumultuous thoughts causing the mist to darken to a
cloudy grey. He was after her and if she didn’t find a host body soon, her
destruction was imminent. Only in corporeal form would she have the ability to
elude him, to mask her presence. Weakened as she was, she was vulnerable,
easily overcome. She stifled a sob, struggling to maintain her veil of silence.
What
did she know of him? Rumors abounded with his legendary skills and
determination. He was relentless, too experienced.
Too determined to end my existence! Weary
and distraught, she settled to the ground seeking a place to hide—to build up
her flagging energy reserves for the next leg of flight. It would’ve been
better to find an energy source but if he was as gifted as she’d been led to
believe, he’d detect the transference and strike.
Why is he after me? I’m not a destroyer.
I don’t harm anyone? Why me? No rational
explanations existed for the unanswered questions.
Leaves
rustled overhead causing her to cringe in fear, the tendrils of mist darkening
to black. Mentally damning his formidable strength, she sent out miniscule
feelers seeking his aura, careful not to delve too deeply lest he perceive her
intrusion. What was he after?
I’m
so afraid! There were so few of her kind left, so few to carry on. Devastated
by failing energy resources and the lack of healthy breeders, the clan was on
the verge of extinction. But I don’t
deserve to die! I’m nothing, too insignificant to warrant the attention of
such a fearsome and ancient being.
Kadin was far too powerful to covet
her meager essence, but if legend could be believed, he was one who slaughtered
his own.

Abaddon Rising is Book 3 in the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) Series. Joss is captured, enslaved and forced to fight in the alien gladiator ring...and then came Kanaan!
Snippet:
Yells and curses rent the air! Whips cracked overhead as the
slave handlers rounded up their charges and herded them towards the conscripts’
quarters.
Joss ducked
in time to avoid a direct hit from a serpentine strap before standing up. One of these days she silently vowed. I really hate those frickin’ whips! Physically
drained and mentally brain-dead, she found a place in the straggling line and
followed the exhausted slaves towards the dormitory. This rotation had been a
singularly grueling one and she ached in every bone and muscle. Two more rotations and we’ll leave this
shithole! And then what? If I win,
I’m back here and if I lose…
The whole
depressing scenario left her downhearted and hopeless. Only thing I can hope
for is that Master Luidoc loses and I’m bought by a Master who’ll set me free! Fat
chance that! The Destroyer will never be defeated in the ring and if I survive,
I’m right back here! Big f’ing deal!
Without
conscious thought, she kicked out, landing a solid blow on the lower leg of the
slave ahead. The shaggy red head whipped around.
“Watch ass, female,” the creature snarled
from thin blue lips.
She stepped back, startled. The
left portion of his face was a mass of burn scars, twisting the blue lips into
a perpetual one-sided smile.
The yellow-green eyes snapped with
anger. “Or I kills you next time!”
“Oh yeah,”
she snapped back. “You and who else?”
Euo, she recalled. One of those conscripts
slated for the mass battle. From her experience in the sparring bouts, his
skills were modest at best and he’d be one of the first to fall. A brief surge
of sympathy gave her a moment’s pause. Have
I become so callous to the suffering of others? Edie would be so ashamed of me!
“I’m…I’m
sorry,” she apologized. “Just tired!”
The shaggy
red head dipped in an acknowledging nod. “Bad place here.” He spit into the
dust. “Deg’Nara bad. All bad,” he hissed under his breath.

Kanaan perched
on a high ledge watching the drama below. The female crouched against the slave
gate glaring at the horde of leering male slaves as they crept forward. She
wouldn’t last the night. None of the females did in here. She’d be torn limb
from limb but not before she was forced to endure the bestial attentions of the
dominant members of the pens. Too bad
really! He admired the female. She was feisty, skilled, a born killer, but
a female all the same.
He
found it odd that her handler put her in here. She’d proven herself with every
match, winning each round and advancing up the ladder. Usually an asset was
treated with a little more respect, especially a female no less who’d won every
bout. The crowds seemed to side with her during combat and he knew for a fact
she’d made Master Luidoc’s pockets a little heavier. Didn’t make any sense that she’d be thrown in here!
He
scrubbed a hand across his jaw considering. The female interested him for more
than just her fighting skills. She was different, her species unknown to him.
In many ways she reminded him of the Arkogian females. The body type was
similar and they were known for jutting mammary glands but her delicate build
and graceful movements decried that lineage. Arkogians were block-shaped and
coarse, even more so than Deg’Nara females. Perhaps
she’s a hybrid! Lot of us around these days, he admitted ruefully.
She’d
drawn his attention from the first time he’d seen her fight in the pits.
Slender and elegant, she looked more dancer than warrior. She was controlled,
seeming bored even but that façade swiftly melted away when her opponent
entered the ring. The only time he witnessed her control slip was when the
female, Anashe he remembered,
fell.

few more paces and the mob would be on her and then it would be over. He drew a
deep breath and exhaled. He stood up, gauging the distance to the ground and
then dropped landing in front of the female.
He
was within inches of the frontrunners of the mob, so close he could taste their
reek. He spat, clearing his mouth of the vile aroma.
“Back off,” he growled,
snapping his teeth. “Or it’ll be the last step you’ll ever take!”

Alien Abduction and the Star Brides (Deg'Nara) Series (The Chalice, Breeder Slave and Abaddon Rising)
Alien abduction is a concept that stimulates the imagination. Like being abducted by highland warriors, the idea of being abducted by a handsome alien has its romantic merit. (We are, of course, talking about the handsome alien, not the lizard-skinned, gargoyle looking specimen.) 
For example, in the 1967 movie, Mars Needs
Women, starring Tommy Kirk (one of my youthful heart throbs), aliens search human females fertile enough to repopulate their dying world. A campy and fun movie at the time.
I've long been a science fiction fan. If a new sci-fi movie comes out, you can almost be assured I'd be there! Not too surprising that I'd delve into science fiction romance at some time. My first stories were time travel, then some paranormal and now I seem to be caught in the sci-fi mode, ergo, The Chalice, Breeder Slave, Abaddon Rising and Will o' the Wisp.
I've taken the concept of alien abduction as my the basis for my Star Brides (Deg'Nara) series, The Chalice is the beginning of the abduction of 1,000 human females as brides for a dying race, Breeder Slave is the story of Leah and Moira who are captured by the bad guys and left to die on a barren planet and, my latest, Abaddon Rising. Joss is captured, enslaved and forced to fight in the alien gladiator games.
