Spring is Just Around the Corner - YAYYYYYY! #spring #plparker #romance #scifi

Spring is just around the corner and I am so ready for it. Seems as though this winter has been a long one or perhaps I'm just getting old and the cold weather affects me more. No matter! Spring is almost here!

Soon, I'll be out in the yard pulling out old plants in preparation for planting new. Yard cleanup, and I can tell I've got my work cut out for me.  I have to admit, I hate mowing but generally my son handles that aspect for me.

The tulips have already broke through as well as patches of daffodils and crocus. Love my tulips. Unfortunately, so do the squirrels. Who knew squirrels would eat tulips but they do. Ornery critters.

Anyway, with all that's going on in the world, I'm content to stay in my own little corner and enjoy the benefits it provides.

Each of us has our own way of gauging when spring is finally here.  Mine is when my miniature daffodils bloom, and this week there they were.  We had a few nice days but back to being in the 40's. Springtime in Idaho!

This has definitely been a busy, but very productive, writing year for me.  Not only did I finish SAFFRON recently, but I just finished my edits on THE SANCTUARY, Book 4 in the Riley's Journey series.  This book was created because I've had so many people wanting the story to continue.  I had to revisit my notes, etc., from some time ago, but think it turned out pretty well.

Scary Stories - When You Know It's the Wrong Thing to Do! #halloween #scary #plparker #devil

I've always been amazed at what stupid moves people can do when it comes to scary movies and stories! Like spend the night in a haunted house or head into a dark basement, that sort of thing. My favorite is the Geico commercial where the kids hide in a shed behind the chainsaws and Jason is looking very disgusted. Pretty much how I feel but in keeping with the Halloween theme, I always like to direct people to my short scary read just in time for the season!

Double JJ and Mama's Search for Bigfoot - The First Try This Summer #bigfoot #paranormal #sasquatch

Summer is our time to do the bigfooting. Our first endeavor this summer was in the Stanley, Idaho area. Full of hope and expectation, we loaded up our equipment and headed into the wilds.

We had only been at our campsite for one night when we noticed the truck was acting strange. Windows wouldn't roll down. The radio looked dead. That sort of thing. Of course, Stanley's only mechanic was on vacation until the weekend so we decided we'd better drive into Boise and get the truck checked out.  We left the camper, intending to drive back up that night. The nice camp attendant offered to keep an eye on it for us. 

Unfortunately, about two miles before we made it into Banks, Idaho, the truck totally shut down. We were lucky we made it to the side before the end. A very nice man stopped and tried to jump the truck but no go so he gave us a ride into Eagle where my friend drove out, picked us up and took us home. Son called a tow truck who agreed to meet us at the truck so we got my car and headed back up. 

The truck was towed to my son's mechanic who decided it was the alternator but wouldn't be able to have it finished until the next morning. *Sigh*. So next morning, we headed back out. By this time, we were down to only a few days left.

We knocked, we set trail cams, used the wild animal call and the listening device but nothing this time.  So goes bigfooting but there is always a next time. 

The best I can say about the trip is if there is a Murphy's Law, we certainly were in the bull's eye!

So the season commences! Double JJ and I are off to the woods in search of the elusive Bigfoot.  We've added new equipment, the most exciting is a portable speaker to get those Bigfoot calls out there!  We are ready! 

(Although, once again, I ask myself, am I prepared if we actually find one?)  

We shall have to see when the time comes.  I am practicing my sprints in the event I need a quick getaway.  I used to be a fast runner but time and tide have taken their toll.  

Anyway, we are off to the woods and wish us luck - either in finding one or making good our escape!

Hello Again!

Well, we ventured out on our overnighter to John Day to search for the elusive Bigfoot where so many years ago, I heard what I truly believe was his roar.

We were excited, prepared to find something, and the weather was perfect.  The moon was full and we really felt like we had a chance.

Unfortunately, the slippery giant was beyond our reach.  The area where we planned to center our search had suffered significant burn-off and I doubt anything would stay in the area for any length of time.

We focused our search on other parts of the Malheur National Forest but I have to tell you, that is the quietest forest we've every searched so far.  Didn't even hear birds.  Was spooky it was so quiet.

Anyway, we knocked, we howled, we played back supposed Bigfoot howls but other than having a good time doing it, our efforts were unsuccessful.

We are undaunted though.  As our heroes on TV would say, tomorrow is another day!

Double J's and Mama's Search for Bigfoot - Part 2 - Background History #bigfoot #paranormal #searchingforbigfoot

As a preface to our search for Bigfoot, I thought I'd give you a little family background history as to the beginnings of our interest. 

Rumor has it that when my Grandfather Bryan (no nonsense man) was working on the railroad in Canada, something big was on a ridge above them and was throwing rocks.  It would come into their camp at night and leave footprints. Grandpa was not one to make things up.  He grew up hunting and fishing and knew what the wilds held.

Another family addition to the search happened when I was 25.  We were having a family campout in Eastern Oregon and were camped below Elk Meadows near John Day.  We were sitting around the fire visiting when about 9:00 p.m., the elk starting whistling in alarm and then we could hear them stampeding. Then this loud and long roar, the scariest sound I've ever heard outside of TV or the movies, echoed down through the area.  My father, also a hunter and fisherman, stopped, stared into the dark and said "What the f$#% was that?"  It wasn't a bear, a cougar or anything he could identify.  I was so scared, I got up and went into the trailer. My son and his cousin were sitting up in bed and their eyes were huge. "What was that?" my son asked. I personally to this day believe it was Bigfoot and he was hunting the elk.

We will continue our search.

Well, having an interest in Bigfoot and watching everything the TV has to offer on the subject, my son and I decided it was time to dip our feet into the Bigfoot pool.  We purchased trail cams, night vision goggles, night vision cameras, a speaker to blast out Bigfoot howls, and various other equipment we knew we needed to do this right (none of this, of course, I have any clue as to how to use).

So loaded with all this techy equipment, we embark on our very first Bigfoot search.  We had planned a camping trip to Stanley, Idaho, and with all the wilderness and rugged areas up around there, we felt it was a perfect place to begin our search.

First night out, we went in the dark.  Note to self: don't do that again. Was too scared to even get out of the pickup and was terrified for my son who was
wandering around in the dark knocking on trees and howling.  As my son's partner in crime, I wasn't handling the situation too well.

Second night out, went out a little earlier, found a really good spot and set up a trail cam.  Made some knocks and son howled some.  Amazingly enough, he got a knock back and something responded to his howls!  Talk about the luck of the beginner! (I hid in the truck!)

We collected the trail cam the next morning but haven't had time to really look through the 50 pictures the trail cam took.  Who knows?  We might have gotten something.

Anyway, we did what we wanted to do and are going to keep it going.  I have to admit, I'm not as adventurous as I'd like to be. The thought of being alone in the woods looking for a creature 3 times my size and then some has me somewhat nervous but I will never be too far from the truck just in case.

Personal Paranormal - Memories

Because it's Halloween and the time of year when all the creepy, strange and weird things happen, I thought I'd share one of my own paranormal experiences.  I have to admit to being somewhat psychic. There were times when I'd scare my own family with things I knew were going to happen, etc., but it is such a part of me, I never questioned it.  I will admit that as I grew older, knowing things got to me so I learned to block them out, but there were those events that managed to sneak through even when I was keeping watch.

I digress.  Years and years ago, when I was 17 or so, I was sick and reclining on the couch in the living room. Mom had the ironing board set up and was ironing.  I felt myself floating up. I could see Mom below me ironing a shirt and my body lying on the couch. I kept floating up and then I was above the clouds and it was so beautiful there. The clouds were tipped with gold, pink, blue and green and in the distance a glowing sun or something.  

I said and it must have been aloud, "It's beautiful here."

Mom said, "What?"

And just like that I was pulled like lightning back into my body.  Mom was staring at me, the iron held above the shirt. 

"Yes, it is pretty in here," she said sounding confused and with a worried look on her face.

Knowing she was upset, I covered, saying "yeah, it is pretty," blah blah blah. But I will always remember the feeling of peace and joy that I experienced in that place.  

I feel like I had an out-of-body experience, no other explanation.  I saw too many things from above Mom's head as I floated up.  Didn't scare me a bit.
